Building a web app the Microsoft way

This article is a very inspiring read for .Net developers like me and my company. Especially as it comes from a company that has used lots of other web technologies and decided to give ASP.NET a go. We get so involved in our own space like ASP.NET, PHP, ROR, etc that you don’t really know what it is like on the other side of the fence. I really appreciate the learning from these guys who were brave enough to try out another language. What is most inspiring is that they managed to build a viable working ASP.NET web app in 3 weeks that now has over 2000 users. Nice one guys

The question

Some people are consumers by nature; they consume vast quantities of knowledge purely for learning’s sake. Others are producers; they consume knowledge with the intent of one day acting on the knowledge and producing something, be it a book, a song, a blog, a startup, etc… Neither is better than the other.

The key is to answer one question: which are you?

Quote of the day

“I can sum up everything I have learned in my life into three words… Life goes on”

Empowering the individual

I heard 37 signals use this quote the sometime ago “We build software to empower the individual”. So many companies build software which tries to control the individual which is a lot of circumstances means getting in their way and stopping the individual from achieving their task and goal.

Great thumbnail generation for ASP.NET

This post http://www.thebrainparasite.com/post/Creating-great-thumbnails-in-ASPNET.aspx by Jonathan. We could use this kind of thumbnail generation in a new app we are building for staff to be able to upload a picture/s of them self.
